The 19th International Vesak Day Celebration, a United Nations-recognized global observance, on the theme “Buddhist Ways for Building Trust and Harmony,” was held on 20 May 2024 at the Conference Hall, ESCAP Hall, United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC).
The opening ceremony of the 2024 International Vesak Day Celebration in Thailand was graciously presided over by His Majesty the King, who appointed General Surayud Chulanont, President of the Privy Council, as his representative to officiate the ceremony.
Mr. Pichit Chuenban, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, delivered the report. The government also presented commemorative gifts and offerings to the Supreme Sangha leaders from 23 countries.
It is believed that the recognition of Vesak Day as an international observance by the United Nations Headquarters and various countries signifies global acknowledgment of the role of Buddhism in nurturing the spiritual well-being of humanity.
The government has therefore supported the organization of the International Vesak Celebration. The Sangha Supreme Council assigned Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University as the main organizer for the 2024 International Vesak Day event under the theme “Buddhist Ways for Building Trust and Harmony,” to celebrate and demonstrate unity.
